Nutritious meals for 50 hungry children in Soweto

By Clive Maluleka | Social Funding Developer

July 2008 we started the Zola Drop-in Centre and in November 2009 we started the Emdeni Drop-in Centre under the management of Community Care.

A Drop-in Centre is a place:

Where children can enjoy an early (07:00) breakfast: ( soft porridge/oats/matabela)

and a lunch at 14:00-15:00   (cooked meat/soya, rice/samp/vegetables)

Each child also receives 6 slices bread per day.

A Drop-in Centre is an ear, an eye and a helping hand:

An auxiliary social worker and a team of volunteers run the centre, 7 days per week.

Assistance with:  obtaining of I.D. documents, application and access to government welfare grants.

Information and advice on: health, education, survival and life skills.

Showing compassion by:  giving moral support and spiritual guidance.

Our  Community Care Programmes take care of 550+ orphaned and vulnerable children. Many of these children are living with guardians such as aunts or grannies. Income is a huge problem resulting in poor nutrition and developmental backlogs, amongst other consequences. Abraham Kriel Bambanani runs Home-Based Care programmes and Drop-In Centres in Soweto and Westbury
