Nigeria faces a growing displacement crisis. As of July 2026, more than 3.7 million people are internally displaced, while renewed attacks and insecurity continue to uproot families. Benue alone hosts at least 500,000 displaced people, while Borno, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara and other states remain affected. This project will provide emergency food and safe shelter to displaced Nigerians who have lost their homes, livelihoods and access to basic necessities.
Thousands of Nigerian families have fled their communities with little more than the clothes they were wearing after armed attacks, killings, kidnappings and the destruction of their homes. Many displaced parents now sleep with their children under trees, in caves and grass shades. No reliable food, no safe shelter, no farmland and no source of income. Families now face hunger, harsh weather, illness and continued insecurity, with women, children and older people facing the greatest hardship.
This project will provide displaced families with emergency food, place to sleep and household supplies. Families will receive food items and charcoal stoves for preparing meals. Those sleeping under trees, in caves and grass shades will receive temporary housing. Assistance will be distributed fairly, with special attention to children, women and old people. This support will help families escape hunger, sleep well, and regain the stability they lost when violence forced them from their homes.
Beyond meeting immediate needs, this project will help displaced families regain stability after losing their homes, farms and livelihoods to crisis. Food and roof over their head can reduce hunger, exposure to harsh weather and preventable illness while giving parents time to plan their next steps and resettlement. As conditions improve, we will organize extramural lessons to help displaced children catch up on missed studies and prepare for their return to school.
