Nigeria is facing one of the world's largest hunger emergencies, with 35 million people expected to face acute food insecurity during the 2026 lean season. In northern Nigeria, families are skipping meals, children are suffering severe malnutrition, and vulnerable households are losing livelihoods due to conflict, inflation, and displacement. EFI will provide emergency food relief, nutrition support, hygiene kits, and livelihood assistance to vulnerable women, children, and displaced families.
Northern Nigeria is experiencing a worsening hunger and malnutrition crisis driven by insecurity, displacement, rising food prices, flooding, and economic hardship. The United Nations warns that 35 million Nigerians could face acute hunger between June and August 2026, while 6.4 million children risk severe malnutrition. Many struggling families survive on one meal a day, children are dropping out of school, and vulnerable households are forced to sell belongings just to survive.
Empower Future Initiative will deliver emergency food supplies, nutrition support for malnourished children, clean water and hygiene kits, and livelihood assistance for vulnerable households in northern Nigeria. The project will prioritize women-led households, displaced families, and children at risk of severe hunger. Community volunteers and local partners will help identify the most vulnerable families while ensuring transparent and accountable aid delivery.
This project aims to reduce hunger, prevent severe child malnutrition, and help vulnerable families rebuild resilience against future food crises. By combining emergency relief with livelihood support, nutrition education, and community empowerment, Empower Future Initiative will help families regain stability, keep children healthy and in school, and strengthen local communities across northern Nigeria for long-term food security and recovery.
