500 Displaced Families Receive Food Relief

By Ikechukwu Kelechukwu | Project Leader

Dear Supporters,

On 15 August 2026, Empower Future Initiative (EFI), in collaboration with HopeShield Humanitarian Foundation, provided emergency food assistance to 500 households displaced by insecurity in Nigeria.

For families forced from their homes by insecurity, hunger is often another painful consequence of displacement. Losing access to livelihoods, farmland, markets, income, and community support can make securing even one daily meal an enormous challenge. This food distribution was therefore designed to provide immediate humanitarian relief while restoring a measure of dignity and hope to families experiencing profound hardship.

The food packages included rice, Garri, and other essential food condiments, providing households with basic supplies to prepare meals and reduce the immediate burden of food insecurity.

The photographs from the activity capture the scale of the intervention—from the food supplies prepared for distribution to the gathering of beneficiary families. Behind every food package was a household with a story of displacement, uncertainty, and resilience.

This intervention was implemented under EFI's Palliative, Empowerment and Education Support Program, in collaboration with HopeShield Humanitarian Foundation, and was proudly sposored by GlobalGiving donors.

We are deeply grateful to the GlobalGiving community and everyone who has supported our humanitarian response. Your generosity has demonstrated how international solidarity can translate into practical assistance for vulnerable families in crisis.

However, 500 households are only a beginning. Many displaced and food-insecure families continue to face hunger and urgently need humanitarian assistance.

EFI is committed to expanding emergency food relief and reaching more vulnerable households. With increased donor support, we can provide more food packages, respond to growing humanitarian needs, and help families move from crisis toward resilience.

Together, we can ensure that displacement does not also mean being forgotten.

Best wishes,
Empower Future Initiative Team
