Rice and Beans are More than Just Ingredients

Rice and beans are more than just ingredients; they are a symbol of hope and nourishment for countless children in Haiti. Together, they create a perfect balance of essential nutrients, providing the energy and strength needed for children to thrive. In a nation where starvation and malnutrition are persistent challenges, a simple meal of rice and beans can mean the difference between despair and possibility. For children attending school, this meal does more than satisfy hunger—it fuels their dreams, helps them concentrate in class, and empowers them to seize the opportunities education can provide. Every plate served is a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty and nurturing a brighter future.
We are deeply grateful for the transformative impact this humble meal has on the lives of Haitian children. Thank you to all who contribute to making this life-saving program possible; your support nourishes not just bodies, but also minds and hearts.

The Hungriest Time of the Year

For many Haitian children, summer isn’t a carefree time. During the school year, children depend upon the free and nutritious meal they receive each school day. When school lets out, many of these children are at risk of extreme hunger. Our Summer Food Program has filled the gap this summer!
Each Friday, the children came to school for a few hours to enjoy a Vacation Bible School program followed by a nutritious meal of rice and beans. After it was over, they were sent home with a bag full of rice and beans for the week. The children were so grateful for the food, and we are so relieved to see the children fed - mind, body, and soul!
Thank you for investing in the lives of the children in Haiti!

With 100% of operations run by local, trusted Haitian employees with facilities outside of the gang-controlled areas, we are not running away from this crisis. Instead, we are committed even more to help our sponsored children and families survive this crisis. Our priorities have been to secure food for the children we serve and provide shelter for our sponsored children’s families who were displaced from their homes by the gangs in Port-au-Prince. We continue to keep 3 months of food in reserve for our 63 orphaned children in Port-au-Prince. In addition, are thankful to many compassionate donors, we have been able to pack 400 crisis relief kits filled with food staples and personal care items and distributed them all to displaced families. The notes of thanks from our sponsored children’s parents have been so encouraging. We are now looking at a second round of food assistance in April to these families as the crisis continues and can certainly utilize additional crisis relief gifts for this effort.
I am thankful to report that nine of our ten schools continue to operate most school days and are serving a hot meal to all the children at their schools. We are making alternative arrangements for the students of our one school unable to physically operate – Delmas Christian – since it is still in a gang-controlled area. Our 9th grade and 13th grade students at the school will meet at the Cazeau Christian School to continue studying for their national examinations and our Delmas teachers are providing online lessons for the other grades through the end of this semester.
