Imagine being a mother in the Bekaa Valley, skipping dinner so your children can eat. Tonight. And tomorrow. In Lebanon, years of conflict and a currency that lost 90% of its value have taken almost everything from families who, in many cases, had already fled one war. Grandparents wait in line for the only meal they will have all day. More than 2,000 families depend on EQUAL NGO's soup kitchens. They are not asking for much. Just to eat.
At EQUAL NGO's soup kitchens, people wait in line for a hot meal. We make sure there is something to serve. We buy food locally, we send it from Spain, and we carry parcels to those who cannot walk to us. This year, a 40-foot container crossed the sea with 40 tonnes of food, wheelchairs and diapers. Because a person needs more than soup to keep their dignity.
When a mother knows there will be dinner, she can think about tomorrow. Children go back to school. Grandparents keep their dignity. That is what steady food does: it gives back more than calories. And EQUAL NGO, a local team that lives in these neighbourhoods, can keep going long after the headlines fade. $25 a month is one week of food for one family. Every month.
