The humanitarian situation in Nigeria is becoming increasingly critical.
According to the latest United Nations humanitarian assessments, nearly 35 million Nigerians are projected to experience acute food insecurity during the 2026 lean season, representing the highest level recorded in over a decade. Conflict, displacement, climate shocks, inflation, and declining humanitarian funding have combined to push millions of families toward extreme hunger.
At the same time, humanitarian organizations are facing severe funding shortfalls. The World Food Programme has warned that reduced global humanitarian funding is forcing aid agencies to scale back assistance, leaving millions of vulnerable people at risk of going without lifesaving food support.
For families living in IDP camps in Benue State, this means fewer meals, fewer essential supplies, and fewer opportunities to recover from the devastating effects of conflict.
