This project will help to Feed less fortunate children who school at Mogra School. Mogra is a community sponsored school in Nairobi's Mathare slum. A meal helps them not to go scavenge for food in the slums' garbage sites and keep them in classroom to learn. Being in school will keep them away from child crime, child labour, early pregnancies and HIV/AIDS. After overcome all these hurdles and finish school, they will be dependable adults who will help in reducing poverty levels in the slum.
Most children in the slums will not attend school if they are not guaranteed a meal. They know their parents will only afford one meal or none at all every day. They abscond school to scavenge for food in the dumpsites, indulge in petty crime, child labour and for girls, teenage pregnancies. To cut the poverty cycle, we encourage the children to go to school and become dependable and independent adults who can help their parents and their siblings to get out the poverty.
By making sure the children remain in class, they will complete school, secure jobs, earn an income, bring up elite families hence reduce poverty levels in the slums. There is a very high possibility that educated children will find a job, will educated their children and will not live in the slums. This in long term will gradually reduce poverty.
The long term goal of this project is to cut down the poverty cycle in the slums. By encouraging children to go and remain in school, there will be reduced number of children indulging in petty crime, child labour, teenage pregnancies hence improved livelihoods through economic empowerment of the youth. This will result to a vibrant youth who are educated and have the skills to participate in national building.
