Aadarana Foundation USA Inc will feed and school 400 orphaned and underprivileged children in Hyderabad, India, providing daily meals plus books, uniforms, and supplies. Removing hunger and the cost of schooling keeps these children enrolled and able to learn.
In Saroor Nagar, Hyderabad, India, 400 orphaned, abandoned and underprivileged children face two linked barriers to school. Their families survive on irregular daily-wage income, so a reliable meal is never guaranteed, and a hungry child cannot learn. Even where tuition is free, the cost of books, notebooks and supplies pushes children out of the classroom. These are the same families facing both problems at once, so addressing only one leaves the child at risk of dropping out for the other.
This project provides each child with four nutritious meals a day - breakfast, lunch, dinner and an evening snack - at $1.68 per child per day, plus a complete set of books, notebooks and learning materials for the full academic year. Meals are prepared and served, and supplies distributed, by our FCRA-registered implementing partner in Hyderabad, which has served these children since 2003 and runs a government-recognised English-medium school on the same campus.
Removing hunger and the cost of supplies keeps children enrolled through secondary school, the point at which most disadvantaged children in India drop out. Children who complete secondary education go on to higher studies, vocational training and employment, lifting their own families out of generational poverty. This project will keep 400 children in Hyderabad fed and in school, and our partner has carried children through to graduation and careers since 2003.
