Xmas
Christmas was celebrated on 22nd of December. Christmas is always days to remember for children as is colorfull with gifts, new dresses and tasty food! This time was no different. Children gathered to gether for the celebration. They exchanged gifts and all the kids were provided new dresses. Children were prepared and they presented the nativilty scene and sang and danced to their heart's content. Not only their hearts but their stomachs to were filled thanks to your generous and magnanimous contributions.
We get more children during Christmas as some of them who are put up in other chidlren's instituions and when they close for Christmas such children who have no or meagre contact with home require stay facility. As we are a temporary shelter, we provide shelter to such children. There were about 28 children for this year's Christmas celebration. With the coming of railway Childline, we have more mouths to feed as there are many more chidlren being rescued from the railway station.
Wish all our readers and benefactors a Merry Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Year!

Children in Contact with Railways
By PD Thomas | Project Leader

From the month of April 2018, we are running a project at the Trivandrum Railway station for children in contact with railways. Railway is the major mode of transport for chidlren who run away from home, those trafficked, those who beg and child labourers and street chidlren. Many children survive on the platform selling, begging, rag picking and sometimes pick pocketing.
Though we had been rurring a rescue booth at the station since 2009, now we have a full team of 12 persons who man the station for unaccompanied chidlren 24 hours of the day. This has resulted in more number of chidlren to take care and provide shelter, food and other sesrvices to such chidlren. The nubers have increased to over 50 chidlren only from railways besides chidlren rescued from the district due to different reasons by CHILD helpline 1098.
More mouths to feed and take care. As this is a challenge we can very proudly say that we are reaching all the chidren who reach the streets of Trivandrum city and no chidlren are left on the streets.
We are extremely grateful for your kind and generous contributions to continue this work of monitoring the streets, railway stations and rescuing and rehabilitation chidlren at risk and more importantly to provide them meals which sometimes they are deprived on the streets.

Feeding children on season and off season
By Anupam Das | Project Coordinator

The overwhelming response we recieved from our donors, for our one time project "feed 60 child on christmas eve", helped us to do something special for the little once who come to us for sheter at don Bosco Nivas. However our responsilbility reaches far beyond just a festive season.
Don Bosco Nivas is a temporary shelter home for, street children, runaway children and children in contact with law. the Maximum duration children stay with us according to Government rules and guidelines is 1 year and minimum of 3 months. In an average we have almost 30 mouths to feed per month.
since (January 2018 - 30th June 2018) : 180 children have been with us , their stay duration has been minimum of 3 days to Max 6 month.
- We arranged approximately 2700 (30 childrenX30 daysx3 meals) number of meals for a month.
- for the last 6 months alone , we have arranged approximately 16,200 number of meals.
The stagering amount of numerical figures seems like a mountain to climb, but we would like to thank our Donors whose support for us on season and off season have helped us to keep serving children who has come to us in need.
