From the month of April 2018, we are running a project at the Trivandrum Railway station for children in contact with railways. Railway is the major mode of transport for chidlren who run away from home, those trafficked, those who beg and child labourers and street chidlren. Many children survive on the platform selling, begging, rag picking and sometimes pick pocketing.
Though we had been rurring a rescue booth at the station since 2009, now we have a full team of 12 persons who man the station for unaccompanied chidlren 24 hours of the day. This has resulted in more number of chidlren to take care and provide shelter, food and other sesrvices to such chidlren. The nubers have increased to over 50 chidlren only from railways besides chidlren rescued from the district due to different reasons by CHILD helpline 1098.
More mouths to feed and take care. As this is a challenge we can very proudly say that we are reaching all the chidren who reach the streets of Trivandrum city and no chidlren are left on the streets.
We are extremely grateful for your kind and generous contributions to continue this work of monitoring the streets, railway stations and rescuing and rehabilitation chidlren at risk and more importantly to provide them meals which sometimes they are deprived on the streets.
