Music Education 100 Children of Dominican Republic

Dear supporters,

We are thrilled to talk about our presence in the communities where our youth belongs to, a very important visit to our campus and two special concerts.

BRINGING MUSIC TO OUR COMMUNITIES

During February, our students, teachers and friends of FEDUJAZZ took the streets of two communities in which we celebrated two free concerts, given that these two communities represent the vast majority of our students. On the 8^th we went to Callejón de la Loma, on the 15^th we visited La Ciénaga.

Our students played music with their souls while being witnessed by their families, neighbors and friends who not only watched our children but also enjoyed some música típica from our country thanks to one of the icons of the genre, Caballito de Mao, who closed both activities by playing merengue with accordion and making everyone dance with his contagious rhythm.

As the country celebrates National Independence in February, we got an invitation for our children to participate in this activity which sought to promote Dominican culture in Pedro Clisante street, El Batey.

FEDUJAZZ WELCOMES THE MIT WIND ENSEMBLE

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, better known as MIT, has a renowned ensemble of 55 musicians, the MIT Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Frederick Harris Jr. FEDUJAZZ had the honor to receive them for a series of workshops that took place on March 26^th. All of FEDUJAZZ students were part of a general workshop and were later split for breakdown workshops aiming specific instruments.

On March 27^th we celebrated a chamber concert with the MIT Wind Ensemble in Casa Marina Amphitheater, Sosúa. The place was jam-packed and at some point during the evening, Mr. Harris called Josean Jacobo to take the stage and conduct the ensemble, which was also joined by some students from FEDUJAZZ alongside a few teachers. They played two Dominican pieces, Compadre Pedro Juan y Juanita Morel.

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY

International Jazz Day is celebrated every April 30^th by the jazz community all over the world. FEDUJAZZ was part of this international activity with a concert celebrated on April 28^th in Cabarete Beach. It was named “Green Jazz Generation”.

We at FEDUJAZZ reiterate how grateful we are to you, our supporters, who make all of this possible. Your generosity allows us to continue offering classes and concerts (all of it for free), repair instruments for our classes, and maintain our campus in Cabarete, which is a home for our students and it is open six days a week for a year round.

We are delighted to share with you some of the incredible moments of the past few weeks in the Dominican Republic.

 FEDUJAZZ celebrated with two parties, Christmas  and the end of 2018, with  emotional concerts.

On Saturday, December 15, FEDUJAZZ’s students and their teachers performed a musical presentation demonstrating everything learned in the last quarter of 2018. With an enthusiastic audience formed by families, volunteers, community and the board of  FEDUJAZZ.

The concert was held in the courtyard of FEDUJAZZ. Students of all levels and instruments performed solos, duets and played in ensembles under the direction of their teachers.

After a delicious lunch prepared and served by the mothers of our students, the student Rose Orbi welcomed an excited audience that, first, enjoyed the our student’s piano and drum performances, who played "Silent Night" and  "We Wish You to Merry Christmas".

Guitar and bass students took the stage, sharing jazz hits that included "So What?" And "Satin Doll."

The Big Band, composed of 22 students of wind instruments and drums, piano, guitar and bass, rocked the crowd with their high-energy performances with the Dominican song "Alegre Vengo" and the standards of blues and jazz.

Finally, the singing students shared choral versions of "Autumn Leaves" and "10,000 Reasons". The atmosphere of the event was festive and fun, and the students went on their winter vacation with a sense of accomplishment. They will take vacations to rest and restore before the FEDUJAZZ classes begin again on January 7, 2019.

LUNCH IN HONOR OF OUR STUDENTS

 To reward the hard work of our students, our donor Mrs. Melyza Rivera de León and her children, hosted on Sunday, December 16, a delicious lunch at Sea HorseRanch, Cabarete, accompanied by friends, family and very special people who made this day a memorable one. Our students once again delighted us with beautiful musical pieces making all the attendees dance.

VACATIONS ARE OVER, BACK TO CLASS

We began the new year full of energy and great projects for 2019. Our students returned to their regular classes and are rehearsing  to prepare the concerts for the month of February.
