Dear Partners,
Warm greetings to you all. We trust that 2026 has been kind to you and your families.
On behalf of our entire team, we extend heartfelt gratitude for your continued support. Your generosity enables us to pursue our mission of uplifting vulnerable deaf children, youths, and women in Homa Bay County and surrounding areas. With an estimated deaf population of over 70,000, your support continues to make a meaningful impact on a community that often remains underserved.
Progress Over the Last five Months
Despite global social and economic challenges, we have remained steadfast in creating sustainable, longterm solutions for the communities we serve.
In the past six months, we successfully launched an organic farming program designed to improve food security for deaf children, elderly caregivers, and vulnerable families. This initiative includes:
ü Cultivating vegetables and staple crops using organic methods
ü Rearing small livestock to enhance nutrition
ü Using natural soil enhancers instead of synthetic fertilizers
ü Promoting sustainable land management to maintain soil fertility and reduce pollution
ü Training deaf youths in modern organic farming skills, equipping them with livelihood opportunities
This program has already reduced food costs at our centers, improved the quality of meals provided, and empowered young people with practical skills that foster independence.
Broader Impact
Beyond food security, the initiative is fostering:
ü Economic empowerment by creating pathways for deaf youths to earn income through farming and livestock rearing.
ü Community resilience by reducing reliance on external food supplies and strengthening local capacity.
ü Environmental stewardship by encouraging ecofriendly practices that protect soil and water resources.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, our vision is to expand this program to reach more families, integrate advanced farming technologies, and establish cooperative models where deaf youths can market their produce collectively. This will not only sustain the centers but also create ripple effects of empowerment across Homa Bay County.
Sincerely,
Lavenda Awuor
