Hurricane Irma barreled through South Florida and the Florida Keys recently and left millions without power, severely damaged structures, and even harmed aquatic and terrestrial animals. Fishing for Families in Need has conducted programming with hundreds of children in these areas for 10 years now, thus we are launching this campaign to be able to provide direct assistance to our community partners and most importantly individual families that were hit especially hard in South Florida.
The lower Florida Keys and South Florida are in desperate need of disaster relief following the destruction of Hurricane Irma. This storm has caused serious injuries, damaged or destroyed homes and businesses, injured and displaced countless animals, and created a state of emergency for the region of South Florida.
We are teaming up with our community partners in South Florida to deliver needed supplies to those impacted in Miami, Florida Keys, and Naples. Our volunteers will work to coordinate with community partners to ensure the materials purchased go directly to those that need it the most in the impacted areas. In addition, we plan to work with local nature centers and animal welfare organizations to assist and positively impact the animal population displaced and injured by this disastrous storm.
Fishing for Families in Need is a youth run organization working in many of these impacted areas, and our local volunteers of all ages will be working together to restore the lives of their neighbors, friends, and complete strangers negatively impacted by this tragic storm. We plan to directly impact in some way over 1,000 individuals in the South Florida area through your monetary donations and donated goods/supplies.
