Join us in restoring sight to 144 elderly patients in Southern Araucania through free ophthalmologic surgeries. Partnering with local hospitals and professionals to reduce waiting lists and improve lives.
In the Southern Araucania region, many elderly residents face significant barriers to accessing vital eye care, with long waiting lists for surgeries. Many of these individuals suffer from preventable vision loss, which severely impacts their quality of life, independence, and overall well-being. Without timely medical intervention, conditions such as cataracts and other eye diseases continue to worsen, leading to a higher risk of permanent blindness.
This project will provide free eye surgeries to 144 elderly patients in Southern Araucania, addressing long waiting lists and preventing further vision loss. Through a partnership with Desafio Levantemos Chile, the Chilean Society of Ophthalmology, and local health services, a team of 30 medical professionals will operate in two hospitals, offering surgeries and post-surgery care. This will restore sight to those in need, improving their quality of life and independence.
By restoring vision to 144 elderly individuals, this project will not only improve their quality of life but also reduce the long-term health risks associated with vision loss, such as falls and social isolation. With access to timely medical care, many will regain their independence, enabling them to participate more fully in daily activities and community life.
