During this pandemic, we would like to present to you a very relevant program that we have taken up in the COVID situation. Many people have lost jobs. Many families depend on daily earnings have no income at all. The most affected are the families with people under terminal care, disabilities, widows, and the elderly without any support. Many are living without basic needs, including food.
Hope society under the Project Vision has started a new program to support such families called Mother’s Meal. The objective is to provide sustained support for such families. Already 3000 families are provided a monthly Kit with provisions to help such families to survive the COVID times across every State in India.
In Kerala, we have undertaken the program to support the terminally ill persons under palliative care in the families. We have started by supporting them with Kits worth 500 rupees per month for 1400 families, 100 from every district of Kerala. They are identified by the Indian Association of Palliative Care and they are being provided the Kits directly by them. Thus complete transparency in the program is assured. We have the list of the beneficiaries.
We have already implemented this project for one month now, starting on the 2nd of October, Gandhi Jayanthi. The project has been acknowledged as a very relevant and necessary one by the beneficiaries and the society at large.
Our activities at the campus during this reporting period is stated below:
On August 8th, 2020, the Advocacy program for the parents of children with disabilities was conducted. The workshop was mainly for creating an awareness among the parents to take care of their children, appreciate them, accept them as they are.
Forming of DPOs (Disabled People’s Organizations) was initiated at our campus. So far we have formed 3 DPOs in three Panchayaths in our project area. The purpose of forming DPOs is that they could be brought to the mainstream of society. They will be made to stand for their rights.
On October 15th, 2020, a Free Homeopathy Medicine camp for the people of the locality was organized. This is in line with the prevention of medicine for the Corona Virus. Around 600 people attend this camp and were given free medicine.
On September 29th, 2020, Free Health Camp for the Children and Parents with disabilities was held at the project site.
Our relentless work for “Let Everyone See” continues. After the initial lockdown, we have started our Free cataract surgery.
A workshop was conducted, Learning for Children with Cerebral Palsy and Mentally Challenged children. The purpose of this workshop is to teach children physical exercises. We have planned 10 workshops in the coming 3 months.
Let's continue our support of this noble project.
