Eye Hospital for 10 Million Poor in Karnataka

The health checkup programme started at around 10:30am at health camp site in kasapura gate along with Dr. Joythimala, Lady Medical Officer, Dr. Shivaprakash, Assistant Professor in department of Anatomy, Dr. Amoghashree, Dr. Rashmi S and Dr. Krishnaveni 1st year postgraduates in community medicine, and members of project vision, along with the team from mahila Seva group.

General health checkup was done for people of kasapura. 446 people enrolled their names for camp for General Health checkup and Free drugs were dispensed. Main complaints among the adult population were related to back pain and knee pain and were treated symptomatically.

All adults were screened for hypertension and follow up was done for the known hypertensives. Patients with altered findings and poor adherence to the old treatment were referred to higher centres for further need. Complaints regarding vision and other ophthalmic complaints were screened and treated by ophthalmologist. Students of Government School of class 1st to 4th also underwent General Health Checkup. Fr George and Fr Mario addressed the camp organiser regarding the need for rural healthcare and hygiene.

Dr. Joythimala, Lady medical officer, UHC gave talk to students of Government School. She gave talk to girls regarding menstruation and menstrual hygiene she gave talk to boys about general hygiene and substance abuse. Under the help of Mr. Venkatesh, and Mrs Anthony the Community worker, went around the village informing about the health camp and brought them to the camp site along with members of project vision. The program was successfully conducted and the first service to the villagers were facilitated after the inauguration of the new campus.

Inaugurating the Eye Care Campus

Eye Care Campus

The Deputy Chief Minister of India’s southern state of Karnataka, Dr. G. Parameshwara, inaugurated Project Vision Eye Care Campus at Arasapura, Tumkur district near Bengaluru on June 23, Sunday.

Inaugurating the novel initiative, Dr Parameswar said, “I have pledged my eyes. When I die, my eyes will not go to the soil. It will give sight to two blind persons”. He expressed the hope that more people would come forward to donate their eyes with Project Vision, an initiative of the Claretian Fathers working for eye donation and eye care. Visually challenged child prodigy Ms Fathima Anshi also joined the inaugural ceremony.

Dr Parameswar also inaugurated a Project Vision Eye Care Clinic at the campus to provide eye care services for the rural poor. He also flagged off the ambulance for the Project Vision outreach programme.

Through the Ambulance service, Project Vision has plans to provide eye care facilities for the villages in Korategere, Madugiri and Gauribidanur Taluks in Karnataka. Project Vision Eye Care Campus is situated at Kasapura Gate, Arasapura Panchayath, Korategere Taluk, Tumkur district, about 100 kilometres from Bangalore.

Dr Rakesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Tumkur District and Mr Vamshi, Superintendent of Police, also attended the programme. Hanumakka Rangaiah, Panchayat President, was also present at the inaugural function which was attended by people from villages around.

Project Vision was started in 2013 by Fr George Kannanthanam, a Claretian priest and a social worker to give sight to the blind and to help the blind persons to live a meaningful life. “The eye donation movement led by Project Vision in Bangalore has motivated about 500,000 persons to pledge to donate their eyes so far,” said Fr Kannanthanam. Sight has already been given to about 300 persons through corneal transplant.

“India has one third of the world’s 39 million blind population. Only 30,000 persons out of the nine million people, who died last year, donated their eyes. The motto of Project Vision is ‘Let Everyone See'”, added Fr Kannanthanam.

Inauguration of the Eye Clinic and Foundation laying of the Hospital

Inauguration of the Project Vision Rural Campus at Gauribidanur.

Four things are planned for the occasion:

Blessing and Inauguration of the Building
Inauguration of the Eye Clinic being supported by Y’smen Club
Inauguration of the Mobile Eye Clinic supported by ONGC and
Laying of the Foundation Stone for the Project Vision Eye Care Hospital Building

23rd June, Sunday, 2019 starting at 4 pm to end at 6 pm.

Chief Guests – Shri Parameshwar, Deputy CM of Karnataka who is also the MLA of the constituency along with Mr Alphons Kannanthanam (Minister for tourism) Govt of India.

In 2018, The Project Vision launched a new project “Eye Hospital for 10 Million Poor in Karnataka” Please extend your support to complete this project.

1.Purpose: To set up The Project Vision Eye Hospital to provide
comprehensive high quality eye care to the rural poor absolutely FREE

2.Facility: This would be a 100 bed state of the art eye hospital with a built up area of about 20000 square feet, conducting 15000 camp patients and treating15000 patient at the base hospital. All surgeries will be made afforable.

3.Outreach model going to the villages: We will visit the villages, screen villagers and the needy are transported to the base hospital, surgery /treatment is done, and patients are commutated back to their village at no cost.

4. Coverage Area: We cover 3 talukas, Gauribidanur from Chikkabalapur district and Madugiri and Kortagere from Tumukur District

5. Project Costs (excluding land costs): 30 million

Most of the parents wish themselves and their children to have a better tomorrow and a brighter future than they ever had, no matter how poor and impoverished they may be. Project vision launches mobile eye clinic for the rural school for eye screening and for the villagers.
