Eye Donation Drive in 164 villages -Chiplun, India

Sahyadri thanks all the donors for generous support. 83 donors helped to raise USD 5,975.00 in last 3 months. Your donation has helped to carry out Eye Donation related activities in Chiplun Taluka. Here is the brief update for your reference.

Cornea Collection

• In last 3 months 2 instances of cornea collection took place with the help of local eye specialists and subsequent transplant at Drushti Daan Eye Bank.

Community Participation

• On the occasion International Eye Donation Day – 10^th June, Sahyadri felicitated relatives of eye donors from Chiplun and neighbouring towns of Guhagar, Lote and Kotavali. Views shared by relatives were clearly indicating the good feeling they had as the eye donation kept memories of their dear ones alive. The entire atmosphere was very emotional and encouraged others to register as eye donors. SNM thanks Mr. Suchay Reddy - President NAB, Chiplun and former Mayor - Chiplun, Dr. G. L. Joshi, Dr. Markad, Dr. N Rathi who graced the occasion with their presence. The awards and honours were given to these families by Sahyadri jointly with Duishtidaan Eye Bank, Sangli.
• Sahyadri conducted eye donation awareness drive in 70 villages, held meetings with elected members and also collected administrative details as well as village level institutional data such as Self Help Groups, School / Primary Health Care Centre /Private Dispensary / Youth Club). This data will be useful to publicize eye check-up camps and ensure local volunteering.

• Chiplun being the central place, Sahyadri has posted banners and posters at all hospitals, chemist shops, restaurants and other prominent locaitons.
• Ganapati Festival is a big event in Konkan. Sahyadri plans to set up a exhibits at the prominent places like City Bus Stand, important cross roads in Chiplun to provide eye donation information and also register donors.
• On the occasion of National Eye Donation Fortnight from 25^th Aug – 8^th Sep Sahyadri has planned rallies, meetings, registration camps. Sahyadri has also requested volunteers to participate. Please do inform your relatives / friends in India about the same.

Eye check-up camps

• During village level meetings possible schedule of eye check-up camps has been discussed.
• Sahyadri held meetings with doctors and local hospitals to discuss Eye check-up camp schedule in villages. Doctors have agreed to participate for such camps starting from Sep. 2015.
