Extreme Medical Needs

Extreme Medical Needs

Summary

Some children in our program suffer from extreme medical needs that go unmet and untreated due to the high expense of specialized care. Funds raised through this project will enable these kids to access the care they need.

Challenge

Many children suffer from extreme medical conditions that require specialized medical care. Costs for this care are far too expensive for the guardians to afford and so many of the children afflicted go without care. For example, we have a boy whose pelvis was crushed in a playground accident. He needs multiple corrective surgeries. We have another child whose eyeballs are not aligned and needs corrective surgery. We have a child who was born with only 3 ribs. Many others have extreme needs.

Solution

This project will provide funds necessary to access specialized care for kids suffering from critical illness, disease, deficiencies or deformities. Most of the specialized clinics and hospitals are in Nairobi, a 3 hour train or car ride away from Makindu. This project will cover medical expenses, travel expenses, and accommodations for an accompanying adult.

Long-Term Impact

Addressing the special medical needs of these children will help them recover from critical illness and disease, and correct deformities thereby allowing them to attend school, enjoy childhood play, and grow into confident capable adults.
