Education is not just about textbooks - it's about giving every child the tools to succeed in life, to explore their passions, and to become the best version of themselves. This project aims to raise funds to continue to provide extracurricular activities, such as swimming, karate, dance, music and art at Koinonia Education Centre in Kenya to expose children to a variety of opportunities, help them discover their talents, overcome fears and find new passions in ways they never imagined possible.
At Koinonia, many students live below the poverty line and lack opportunities to explore new experiences beyond the classroom. This negatively affects their self-esteem, mental health, providing no hope for the future. We believe education is more than academics and offer many extracurricular activities to allow each child to find their passion. However, we face the challenge of insufficient funding to provide a stable, balanced choice of extracurriculars to enhance our children's experience.
Through this project, we can continue to provide a variety of extracurricular activities for our students. Swimming, karate, dance, music and art, expose our children to new opportunities to realize their talents. The activities help to build confidence, perseverance, self-expression and the skills to face challenges in life. These funds will go towards materials, equipment and paying for instructors. We believe that our students will find a purpose and new hope through these activities.
We believe our activities help to develop leaders who understand the importance of teamwork, perseverance and courage. Many of our alumni have funded their higher education or have chosen vocations based on extracurricular skills learned at Koinonia, like karate, music and home science. Our graduates overcome their fears and find new passions, and become leaders who use their talents to transform their communities. Our vision is to continue to let our children shine through these activities.
