We are seeking your partnership in our effort to protect at-risk preschool children with disabilities. At our eight early childhood centers throughout Israel, we have discovered that many children are not receiving the proper care after they leave our premises. These children with developmental delays, autism, genetic diseases and syndromes, are also experiencing verbal and physical abuse, neglect, and inadequate parenting.
Our teams of community-employed social workers and Chimes Israel caregivers at all of our centers identified 32 children from families in distress. Their struggles include poverty, inadequate parenting, multiple children with special needs, and domestic violence. The professionals assessed that these at-risk families are not providing the care, love, acceptance, and support to help develop their abilities to meet their potential.
The project will help change the children's environment from unhealthy/risky to nurturing through parental education on normative conduct for an emotionally and physically safe home environment. The program will prevent the removal of the children from their parents' custody to social services and an out-of-home arrangement such as foster care. A parent counselor and a health professional separately visits each at-risk family at home for 10 sessions each.
This early intervention and intensive rehabilitation through parental education is the ideal approach for optimal physical, oratory, cognitive, social, and emotional development. The neural circuits in the brain, the foundation for learning, behavior, and health, are most adaptable during the first three years of life. Over time, these connections become harder to change. The earlier intervention is implemented, the better a child's chances of achieving their lifetime full potential.
