Learning to be more resilient

It is good to start talking about the positive things in our community. Still, it is also necessary to talk about some of the struggles the communities face when trying to be more developed.

In the last months, we started working with leaders from the communities to choose people who need support in different ways. The support is not just materials, it is always necessary to provide technical assistance in some ways.

Here are the first achievements of the project:

  • 2 composting latrines were built already to support two families. This will reduce contamination of groundwater and provide better sanitation for the families.
  • 3 Chicken coops were established to keep supporting the families in El Bajo Lempa. These will provide food for the women farmers and better prices of eggs in the neighborhoods.

Also, there will be two more composting latrines and chicken coops coming thanks to the Congregational Church, Iowa City. We have a big list of women who need support, so, we keep looking for partners to meet our goals.

The rainy season is affecting the communities because of the high levels of rainfall, some of the crops get flooded and some of them survive thanks to the knowledge and techniques learned by farmers. People are learning from new realities and we are looking forward to supporting them with technical assistance and materials to recover from their struggles. The main objective is to increase the resilience of the communities rather than just giving materials.

Thanks to the Dalis Foundation, we could provide about  650 bags with necessary food to help affected communities y Bajo Lempa and Salinas del Protero. People lost their crops and other livelihoods due to the floods of heavy rainfall last week.

We want to thank you for your generous support of our projects. We look forward to working with you as always.
