Extend Resilient Women-led Farming in El Salvador

Dear friends,

We are happy to work with more people. Last month, we supported more people from our communities in El Salvador. It is not easy to support everyone, but we are moving forward with the resources we have.

We recognize the efforts of the families in El Bajo Lempa because once they are selected to be supported, they also participate in the different phases of the project. For example, when getting materials for chicken coops or composting latrines, the families commit to building the infrastructure and maintain it, so the benefit remains good.

During the last three months, we did these activities:

-        4 new beneficiaries trained about the good use of chicken coops

-        2 new chicken coops under construction

-        20 composting latrines built, to support more than 40 people in El Bajo Lempa

These achievements are because of your generous support and other partners, such as the Congregational United Church of Christ in Iowa City and Telus Digital.

Our Agroecology Program is implementing several activities to promote food security, which is the key for families.to maintain
their food sovereignty. Last three months, we have done many activities to support families with the production of grains
vegetables, and chicken. The little support people received grows to support families and their neighbors.

Some of the most important achievements during this period include:

• 15 families grew corn in 15 hectares. This will allow them to have corn for a year to make tortillas and other nutritional food. Once they secure some corn, the rest can be sold to neighbors and friends at a good price, so everyone gets&nbsp benefits in different ways.
• About 20 women have participated in different workshops about producing organic food for chickens and how to take. care of the chicken coops. These activities allow women to share and learn from each other.
• 30 families kept producing vegetables from the diversified agroecology plots. Those families have also participated in seed-sharing activities.
