Summary

Birds are declining around the world, and The WFVZ Bird Museum and Research Center studies and explains why. We are the only natural history museum in Ventura County, California. Located in the city of Camarillo, we use our research and education programs, and the largest collection of birds' eggs and nests in the U.S. and the world, to help birds and to help our local community understand and value them.

Challenge

Our growing community in southern California has been strongly requesting that we expand our offerings as soon as possible! A recent poll of our Members showed that they want MORE open days at the museum, MORE guided tours, MORE events, and MORE classes! Our community of researchers and artists also want MORE access to the collections! So, to do all of this we need to hire new staff, and to do that, we need MORE funding. That is why we are coming to you for help!

Solution

Funding for an Education and Volunteer Coordinator, and support for a Curatorial Assistant, would greatly enhance the WFVZ's community outreach. An Educator will expand our operating hours and programs for the public, cultivate more volunteers for events and classes, and expand our displays and seminars on important topics about birds. A curatorial assistant will be able to provide more assistance to visiting researchers and artists when they use the collections, both virtually and in person.

Long-Term Impact

Once these two positions are secured, the WFVZ will be able to provide increased access for the public, increased programming to teach our community more about the impacts to birds and how to address them, and increased support for researchers who are studying birds and these issues. We anticipate an additional 1,000 people will be able to use the museum with these positions! So, please JOIN US in making the WFVZ Bird Museum and Research Center YOUR natural history museum!
