Big news! By the end of December the foundation of the six new classrooms was nearly complete. The last update on the construction we shared had the trees cleared, some holes dug and the rebar being formed. On Christmas Day, the holes were filled with brick walls and cement columns to support the cement floor. Construction is on going and we're looking forward to sharing the progress with you.
One really special thing about this construction project is that we've been able to hire some of the youth that had been through the Challenging Heights Hovde House. Joseph* is now 20 years old and does welding. He did some of the rebar molding for the foundation and soon for the rest of the construction. We love being able to support the continued success of the children we've served.
In other exciting news, 22 children were reunited with their families this month to begin the reintegration process. This day is always a bittersweet day for the children. Many of them are sad to leave the home they've made at the Challenging Heights Hovde House, but they are excited to hug their families. In the end, the hugs and smiles on their homecoming always win out.
With this group of children reintegrated it means that we have a few spaces for new arrivals at the recovery shelter. However, it's still not enough space for our big plans of ending child trafficking. There are still some funding needs for us to be able to finish Phase 1, the six classrooms. Your contributions make this work possible.
