Our year here at Challenging Heights has ended on a high note. Earlier this month, our Rescue Team returned from Lake Volta with 15 children, newly rescued from modern slavery. When they arrived, the boys and girls were greeted with cheers and smiles from the other children. The whole process can be confusing and scary for the rescued children, but so many of them say that when they saw all the other children at the shelter, they knew they were in a safe place.
These three girls and 12 boys are settling into their new beds at the Challenging Heights Hovde House. They are going to the doctor for a check-up and any necessary medical care. Our staff has assessed their academic level and placed them in the class suited for their ability. In the next few weeks, each child will be assessed for PTSD and individualised care plans will be created.
All of this high-quality care is possible because of you. You've given these incredible survivors the place where they can recover.
We've recently received some extra support for the six new classrooms and library through some wonderful grants, however, there's still a bit more to go to make sure we can finish Phase 1. With the recent arrival of newly rescued children, it's clear that more space for more survivors is our critical first step to ending child trafficking in Ghana's fishing industry. You can make that space a reality.
