At Teach For India, students are provided with opportunities for exposure and access to different fields, to help expand their understanding of what is possible, if only they set their dreams high! Below is a short description of one such event where our students had a chance to engage with their peers from around 100 schools at the Dream Madras Week event, share ideas and learn about what multi-school engagement could look like.
DREAM MADRAS WEEK:
Our students from Chennai High School Taramani, Chennai High School Kottur and Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School Nungambakkam presentied their ideas and dreams for a Smart City at The Dream Madras Week hosted by United Way of Chennai in August 2016. Students came up with interesting ideas such as managing the city online through the "Smart City Citizen Portal" website, ideas for redesigning the city landscape, etc ...It was indeed a day of learning and exposure for our students!
Abhinisha, Mahalaxmi, Jegan, Celesta and Durga of Chennai High School Kottur created a smart city portal for citizens of their city - Chennai! Using a design thinking process, they created a website based on a field trip to Mylapore, where they took stock of the city's positives and negatives, and case studies of developed cities. In teams, they devised solutions to a set of problems they prioritized and uploaded information on the platform that can also record suggestions, complaints and ideas from the public. The kids wowed the attendees at the United Way of Chennai Dream Madras event.
This is one of many such stories of impact that your support is facilitating and we are really grateful for your enthusiasm towards ensuring we are able to reach our vision - "One Day all children will attain an excellent education"!
