$6 will give a student the equipment they need to prepare for upcoming exams. Not only will they have the pens, pencils, ruler, hand sanitiser and books they need, they will also know that someone out there wants them to succeed; for them to be the best they can be. This campaign will see 250 students in five rural schools in Botswana get what they need. Schooling has been disrupted since April 2020 & without access to online learning, they are struggling to catch up. Let's give them a boost
Despite recent reforms of the education system in Botswana, the dropout levels at both primary & secondary schools are high with just a quarter of secondary school students achieving at least a C grade in their final exams, grades needed to advance to further education. Drop out levels before secondary school are also high, with many leaving formal education at the age of 13. The past 18 months schooling has been disrupted & without access to online learning, formal education stopped.
We asked the teachers in the school we partner with how we can help as the students try & prepare for exams & they requested the simple thing of each student have the stationary to revise & the revision books & hand sanitiser for the classrooms so that they can do so in a safe and resourced classroom. It won't help them catch up on lost schooling but it will ensure they can write their exams & give them the boost they need right; knowing that someone somewhere wants them to do their best.
This project gives 250 students the best possible opportunity to do the best they can do in their upcoming exams despite the lost education they have suffered due to Covid-19. Completing their primary and secondary education successfully will encourage some to further their education & therefore have more opportunities for employment helping to lift themselves and their family out of poverty. The books provided will enable future students have access to the resources they need for revision.
