REPORT OF EVENING STUDY CENTERS – UPTO 02.06.2019.

Name of the project:

-          Organization of 20 Evening Study Centers in Jawadhi Hills for 400 tribal children in the 10 - 13 age group studying 6th to 8th standards

Reporting period

-          Up to 02.06.2019.

Objective of the project

-          To organize Evening Study Centers to improve the performance of the children through academic guidance for children, helping them in their home work as the parents of these children are illiterate, nutritious meal for children, health monitoring, opportunities for exhibiting innate skills continuous motivation of parents to provide for higher education of children with special reference to girl children .

Progress upto the reporting period

-          Only one center is functioning and this is in Kilaiyur village in Jawadhi Hills, Thiruvannamalai Dist, Tamilnadu, India.

-          Number of children          receiving the services-           31 children

-          Classes in which the children study                      -           6th to 8th standard / grade.

-          The program will benefit the poor children in tribal areas. The students and their parents are very happy about the functioning of Evening Study Centers.

Activities undertaken in the center:

-          Academic guidance for children – rendered by – Mr. R. Palani, MSc. B.Ed.

-          Nutritious meal for children – biscuit, plantain, nuts etc

-          Health monitoring – 2 visits by doctor – Dr. Sivanesan , Primary Health Center

-          Opportunities for exhibiting innate skills and creativity – singing, dancing, acting, drawing, sports, play materials – carom, chess

-          Continuous motivation of parents to provide for higher education of children with special reference to girl children – 2 programs conducted resulting in two girls joined medical course and these are the first to enter in medical education among the community comprising more than one hundred thousand population.

-          Awareness camps on Prevention of suicide for adolescent girl students.

-          Survey on dyslexia is being conducted.

The impact of intervention by SPHEED-GLOBAL GIVING is being recognized and some educated youths in their area (The geographical spread of the block from Jamunamarathur is 42 Km to the south, 25 km to the west, 43 Km to the east, and 12 Km to the north.) have started teaching the young students of their community. Thus the intervention is considered as model for them. This not merely proves sustainability but also reliability.
