Estudio Damgo II Revives Community Spirit
By Dean Sinco | Project Director
![]()
After the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy in 2012, the local government of Dumaguete City decided to provide a safer resettlement area in Brgy. Bajumpandan for the typhoon victims.
With the help of the City Social Work Department, the community has been organized and often needed a convenient and spacious place for the important meetings.
Estudio Damgo II found its purpose in the aspect of community organizing by the government social workers and some non-government organizations whose utmost desire is to help the community attain development. During the meetings usually conducted by the social workers, the main problems and solutions, both immediate and permanent, are being tackled. The fruitful sharing of ideas would lead to better results for the community's gain.
Moreover, the place has become a strategic area for public announcements for the upcoming activities, meetings, invitation to join multi-purpose cooperatives and a lot more which could be of great relevance to the residents.
ED II continues to serve its purpose to unite people in attaing community development.

Welcome Center under construction
Setting out to design and build the multipurpose hall for the Bajumpandan village flood survivors three years ago, we discovered that the benefits of Estudio Damgo "dream studio" extend well beyond the built structure. Estudio Damgo is completing their fourth building, a welcome center located at Dumaguete City's port terminal. We are delighted to share that Estudio Damgo has received a lot of recognition and support since launching our pilot project in 2012 and it continues to raise the bar in architecture education in the Philippines.
Our accomplishments include:
- Four community built structures: a daycare for a rural mountain village (2013), a multipurpose hall for flood survivors of two national disasters (2014), a floating guardhouse for the marine sanctuary (2015), and a welcome center at Dumaguete's port ferry terminal (2016).
- 21 architecture graduates empowerd with the skills to become professional leaders
- 3 licensed architects and 13 architecture graduates employed in firms and working towards their license
- 1 TAYO student award
- United Architects of the Philippines Students award and recognition
- 2015 National Winner Eco-Friendly Schools in the Philippines United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development
We couldn't have done it without your support. The program continues moving forward and we're very close to meeting our funding goal for the mulitpurpose hall. Today, we've raised $7,494 through GlobalGiving. Thank you for all your help and sticking with our program over the years. We only need $2,506 to meet our $10,000 goal. Please help us reach this goal!
