Oxford Mutual Aid is a community effort. Together we will support some of Oxford's most vulnerable residents who are experiencing food poverty. Over the Christmas seasonal period (December 2023), we will deliver over 800 food parcels, essential supplies, festive hampers and Christmas meals. Consider donating monthly if you can, as our activities continue not only during Christmas, but throughout the whole year.
Following nearly 4 years of hardship caused by Covid-19, the continuing cost of living crisis will prevent many families from celebrating this Christmas, simply because the associated costs will be exorbitantly prohibitive. There are continually increasing numbers of individuals and families who do not have the means to meet even their most basic needs. Wages and systems of support simply do not meet the needs of people anymore.
Over the Christmas period, the OMA community of staff and volunteers come together to support fellow community members. Extra time and effort is put in by everyone to ensure the success of this project, which will deliver food parcels, essential supplies and festive hampers over to over 800 individuals in 270 households. Additionally, hundreds of reheatable meals will be delivered to people without access to cooking facilities.
Showing solidarity is not just about working together to ensure that everyone has access to the things they need to subsist, but also about the spreading of joy, making people feel equal and valued, and creating a sense of community. At OMA, we believe this is essential to building resilience across the city's different communities. In addition to the benefit to recipients of extra food during Winter, project is designed to alleviate the mental toll of deprivation on individuals and families.
