This project prevents school dropout and failure among pregnant adolescents and young mothers, offering both academic continuity and personal and parental education. It includes two components: Formal education, through an online platform provided by Escola Fonseca Benevides - EDI (covering lower and upper secondary levels). Leisure and training activities, including workshops and creative sessions during school holidays, fostering self-confidence and life skills.
Young pregnant women and adolescent mothers (up to 18) face a high risk of school dropout and socio-economic vulnerability. Lack of parental preparation and support leads to social exclusion and mental health issues. Without intervention, a cycle of poverty affecting both mother and child is perpetuated. The problem is compounded by the increasing number of young migrant mothers who lack basic resources.
The Mothers' School offers an integrated solution focused on academic continuity and empowerment. Through a partnership with Escola Fonseca Benevides - EDI, it provides online secondary education, directly preventing dropout. The Baby Room ensures safe childcare, removing the primary barrier to education. Psychosocial support and specialized workshops equip mothers with the essential skills for dignified and autonomous motherhood.
The long-term impact is to break the cycle of poverty and exclusion for two generations. Trained mothers gain academic qualifications and essential skills, achieving greater economic autonomy, social inclusion, and better employment prospects. The project fosters improved family well-being and informed parenting, creating stronger families. Alignment with SDGs 4, 5, and 8 generates more resilient communities.
