Over the past few months, EBPP has continued working with our community and local partners to support adolescent health, improve access to safe drinking water, and promote menstrual health.
Iron Tablet to Prevent Future Malnutrition
In July and September, we continued distributing iron tablets to 62 adolescent girls at EBPP schools, with each student receiving a total of 10 tablets for weekly consumption. Preventing anaemia during adolescence supports healthy growth and helps reduce health risks for future mothers and children.
In Daya Learning Centre, a teenage health post for students from Cegi, Bunga, and Pengalusan initiated by the local community health centre (Puskesmas) in collaboration with EBPP, continued its preparatory activities. Students learned about the health post’s procedures and practised measuring their height and weight through simulated sessions. Once fully established, the health post will hold monthly sessions where students can monitor their health and discuss health concerns with Puskesmas health professionals.
Improving Access to Safe Drinking Water
EBPP distributed 63 water filters (donated by Terra Water Indonesia, a Bali-based social enterprise producing drinking water filtration systems from natural materials) to families in Manikaji Puncak, Manikaji Asti, and Manikaji Kaliaga. As some community members do not routinely boil drinking water, these portable filters offer a practical alternative for treating spring water and rainwater. Requiring no electricity and lasting up to two years with proper care, the filters help families access safer drinking water and reduce exposure to waterborne infections that can affect children's health.
Promoting Menstrual Health and Financial Literacy
In August, EBPP partnered with Perfectfit, a women-led enterprise reshaping menstrual health across Asia, and SeaBank, a digital bank that funded the activity, to educate more than 45 mothers and adolescent girls in Darmaji. Participants explored menstrual health myths and facts, discussed alternative menstrual products, and addressed topics often considered taboo. Perfectfit also provided reusable menstrual pads, offering a more environmentally friendly option that can help reduce recurring expenses on disposable products.
