Turning Family Farms into Pathways for Girls' Economic Independence

By Ivan Seguya | Project leader

Dear donor,

We want the girls we serve to grow up with choices. For many young women in rural communities, agriculture can become an important pathway toward economic independence when they have access to skills, resources, mentorship, and opportunities.

F SSIBU Mission Foundation is helping girls understand how small-scale farming can be connected to entrepreneurship. Rather than teaching farming only as a household responsibility, we introduce girls to production planning, budgeting, record keeping, market awareness, poultry management, vegetable growing, and the sale of surplus produce.

Families are included because a girl’s success is stronger when the household understands and supports her participation. Through family-based agricultural education, we encourage parents and caregivers to recognize girls as capable contributors, decision-makers, and future entrepreneurs.

We also support families with practical agricultural inputs where resources permit, including improved seeds and farming guidance. This helps create opportunities for girls to practice the skills they learn.

Donors can help us expand this work through training materials, seeds, poultry starter projects, farming tools, demonstration gardens, mentorship, and market-oriented skills development.

The goal is not simply to teach a girl how to plant a seed. It is to help her understand how that seed can become food, income, confidence, and an opportunity to build a better future.

When girls gain practical economic skills, families become stronger and communities gain young women who can contribute to sustainable development.

Your support can help us give girls the tools to grow their own opportunities.
