Mentorship is becoming one of the most powerful tools in our communities for protecting girls from child marriage and helping them understand that their future can be different. Through regular mentorship sessions, girls are gaining confidence, learning about their rights and discovering the importance of remaining in school and pursuing their dreams. Instead of accepting early marriage as an unavoidable part of life, girls are increasingly speaking openly about the pressures they face and seeking support from trusted adults.
This change is also reaching parents and caregivers. As families participate in community conversations, more parents are beginning to understand the long-term consequences of child marriage, including school dropout, early pregnancy, health risks, economic dependency and the loss of opportunities for girls. They are becoming active partners in prevention rather than remaining silent when risks emerge.
Donor funding has helped make these conversations possible by supporting outreach, mentorship, educational materials and community engagement. Every mentorship session creates another opportunity to reach a child before a harmful decision changes her life.
The impact goes beyond individual girls. Communities are beginning to develop a stronger culture of protection, where children are listened to and families are encouraged to act early.
With continued support, we can expand mentorship to reach more girls, engage more parents and strengthen community protection systems. Every contribution helps create a safer environment where girls can remain in school, grow with dignity and choose their futures rather than having their futures chosen for them.
