Every girl deserves the opportunity to complete her education before taking on adult responsibilities. At the same time, the boys growing up alongside these girls need guidance to understand what healthy, respectful, and responsible relationships look like. Through Keep Her in School, F SSIBU Mission Foundation is therefore extending its investment to boys as an important part of long-term change.
The program recognizes that today’s boys will become tomorrow’s adults, partners, parents, professionals, and community leaders. Equipping them with knowledge and positive values now can help them make informed decisions that protect their own futures while respecting the aspirations of girls.
Through mentorship, life-skills sessions, reproductive health education, peer discussions, and awareness activities, boys are encouraged to understand the importance of education, responsible choices, respect, communication, and personal accountability. Discussions also help challenge attitudes that can contribute to early pregnancy, forced relationships, harassment, school dropout, and discrimination against girls.
This approach complements the support provided directly to girls. While girls receive assistance to overcome barriers that threaten their education, boys are being prepared to become part of an environment that encourages girls to remain in school and pursue their ambitions.
For donors, this represents an opportunity to invest in prevention as well as direct support. Helping a boy develop positive values today can influence his decisions for years to come—and potentially shape how he treats his future partner, children, classmates, and community.
With sustained funding, Keep Her in School can equip more boys and girls with the knowledge, confidence, and values needed to build healthier relationships and stronger communities.
