Keeping girls in school is not only about supporting girls—it also requires engaging boys as important partners in creating communities where every child can learn, grow, and achieve their potential. Through the Keep Her in School initiative, F SSIBU Mission Foundation is expanding its work to equip boys with knowledge, values, life skills, and positive attitudes that contribute to safer and more supportive learning environments for girls.
Boys are growing up alongside the girls who will become their future classmates, colleagues, community leaders, and, for some, life partners. Preparing them early to understand respect, equality, responsibility, communication, and healthy relationships can help shape a generation that values girls’ education rather than becoming a barrier to it.
Through mentorship sessions, peer discussions, life-skills education, reproductive health awareness, and community engagement, boys are encouraged to understand the challenges girls face, including menstrual stigma, early pregnancy, school dropout, discrimination, and harmful social expectations. They learn how their choices and behaviour can either support or undermine a girl’s opportunity to remain in school.
For donors, supporting this component means investing beyond individual beneficiaries—it means helping transform the environment surrounding girls. Every boy equipped with knowledge and positive values has the potential to influence friends, siblings, families, and future communities.
With continued donor support, Keep Her in School can reach more boys and girls, strengthening a generation prepared to build relationships and communities founded on dignity, responsibility, opportunity, and mutual respect.
