Keep her in school

Shauwa’s story captures one of the painful realities faced by children living in vulnerable communities. For her, going to school was not simply a matter of having a uniform, books, or school fees. Before she could think about learning, she often had to think about survival. She would first go vending so that she could raise money for school and find something to eat that day.

This placed Shauwa dangerously close to dropping out of school. Every day became a difficult choice between meeting immediate needs and pursuing education. Yet behind this struggle was a young person with dreams that deserved a chance.

Through the support of our donors, that story is beginning to change. By helping address some of the barriers surrounding her education and basic needs, donors have helped create space for Shauwa to return her focus to learning. Instead of spending her time trying to raise money simply to get through the day, she can increasingly look toward school as a pathway to a different future.

This transformation is about more than keeping one child in a classroom. It is about protecting a dream from being lost to poverty. It is about giving a child the opportunity to learn, grow, build confidence, and imagine possibilities beyond survival.
