Radio Talk Shows on Girls' Education Themes: Taking Awareness Beyond the Classroom

By Ivan Seguya | Project leader

Many families in vulnerable communities may not have regular opportunities to attend education workshops or community meetings. F SSIBU Mission Foundation uses radio talk shows as a way of taking important conversations directly into homes and communities, reaching parents, guardians, young people, teachers, and community leaders.

Through radio discussions, F SSIBU raises awareness about girls’ education, school dropout prevention, menstrual health and stigma, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, child protection, sexual and reproductive health, and the importance of parental support. These conversations give families an opportunity to hear practical information, ask questions, and reflect on challenges that can prevent girls from remaining in school.

The impact extends beyond the radio program itself. A parent who learns about menstrual stigma may become more comfortable discussing menstruation with their daughter. A guardian may better understand the importance of keeping a girl in school. A community leader may become more aware of the need to support girls facing early marriage or other barriers to education. Young people can also gain knowledge that helps them make informed decisions and seek appropriate support.

Radio therefore helps F SSIBU take community education beyond the people who attend physical meetings. One broadcast can reach many households at the same time, helping create wider conversations around protecting girls’ education.

Donor support can help cover airtime, program preparation, expert participation, educational materials, and follow-up with communities.

Your contribution can help turn a radio microphone into a powerful tool for community change—bringing knowledge, encouragement, and practical solutions into homes and communities and helping more girls remain connected to education.
