Menstruation should never become a barrier to a girl’s education. Yet girls living in vulnerable communities may face difficulty accessing menstrual materials, water, hygiene supplies, and reliable information. Without appropriate support, these challenges can contribute to missed school days, embarrassment, isolation, and increased vulnerability to dropping out.
F SSIBU Mission Foundation is responding through Keep Her in School, combining menstrual material distribution with mentorship, menstrual health education, and community engagement. We want girls to understand that menstruation is a normal biological process and that they deserve dignity, safety, and support throughout their menstrual journey.
Our interventions include providing menstrual materials to girls who need them, supplying water cans for schools, and supporting handwashing through the provision of detergents. These practical resources complement mentorship sessions where girls can ask questions, discuss challenges, build confidence, and learn healthy menstrual hygiene practices.
We are also working with parents because sustainable change begins at home. By encouraging parents to communicate openly with their daughters, we are helping challenge the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation.
We hope to expand these interventions to additional schools in vulnerable communities where girls continue to experience menstrual poverty.
Donor support can help turn menstrual care from a daily struggle into a source of dignity and confidence. Together, we can help more girls remain engaged in their education and pursue their dreams without being held back by period poverty or stigma.
