Technology is increasingly influencing education, employment, communication and entrepreneurship. Yet vulnerable young mothers in communities across Mukono and Eastern Uganda can face barriers to accessing digital learning.
F SSIBU Mission Foundation provides computer skills training as part of its broader approach to empowering teenage mothers and vulnerable young people.
Computer training gives participants an opportunity to develop basic digital literacy and confidence in using technology. These skills can help them access information, communicate more effectively and explore future educational or livelihood opportunities.
For young mothers, structured learning also provides a productive environment in which they can focus on personal development. By engaging in skills training, participants can spend time building abilities that contribute to their future rather than remaining trapped in isolation and hopelessness.
Digital education can also be connected with wider community awareness, including responsible technology use and online safety. Young people need knowledge not only about how to use digital tools but also how to navigate digital environments responsibly.
Donor support can help provide computers, training resources, instructors, learning materials and accessible training opportunities.
The impact of digital skills extends beyond the training room. A young mother who becomes comfortable with computers can gain confidence in learning new technologies and exploring modern opportunities.
When combined with mentorship, reproductive health education and livelihood development, computer training becomes part of a broader pathway toward empowerment.
For donors, investing in digital literacy means preparing vulnerable young women for a changing world.
In Mukono and Eastern Uganda, a computer can become more than a piece of equipment. It can become a doorway to knowledge, skills, communication and opportunity.
Through sustained support, donors can help ensure that teenage mothers are not excluded from the digital future because of poverty or difficult circumstances.
