The dissemination workshop on sexual and reproductive health in Mukono District created an important platform for bringing together stakeholders, young people, community representatives, health actors, and development partners to address challenges affecting teenage girls. A major focus of the discussion was teenage pregnancy and its far-reaching consequences on education, health, family stability, and future opportunities.
Teenage pregnancy remains a significant community concern because it can interrupt a girl's education and expose her to increased social and economic vulnerability. Through the workshop, participants emphasized the importance of equipping teenage girls with accurate, age-appropriate information that enables them to make informed and responsible decisions about their health and future.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening communication between adolescents, parents, teachers, health workers, community leaders, and other trusted adults. When young people have safe spaces where they can ask questions without fear of judgment, they are more likely to seek reliable information and appropriate health services.
For donors and development partners, investing in sexual and reproductive health education represents an investment in the long-term wellbeing of communities. Supporting these initiatives can help reduce preventable challenges, keep girls in school, strengthen household resilience, and create opportunities for young people to pursue their aspirations.
The workshop therefore served not only as a platform for sharing information, but also as a call for coordinated community action. By strengthening knowledge, mentorship, referral systems, and community engagement, stakeholders can contribute to creating an environment where teenage girls are protected, informed, supported, and empowered to build healthier and more productive futures.
