For many vulnerable families, the decision to keep a girl in school is closely connected to whether the household can meet its basic needs. When families face persistent food insecurity and limited income, education can become difficult to sustain. Through our Keep Her in School program, we are working to change this reality by connecting girls’ education with sustainable household livelihoods.
We believe that a stronger family economy creates a stronger foundation for a girl’s education. By equipping parents and caregivers with practical, modern, and environmentally sustainable farming methods, we help families increase food production, improve household nutrition, and create opportunities to generate income from surplus agricultural produce.
This is not simply an agricultural intervention—it is an investment in the future of children. Increased household productivity can enable families to better manage essential expenses, including school requirements, learning materials, meals, uniforms, and other costs that can place girls at risk of dropping out.
Our approach addresses poverty from the household level while creating opportunities for girls to remain in school, complete their education, develop confidence, and pursue their aspirations. At the same time, sustainable farming strengthens community resilience by promoting productive use of available resources and creating livelihood opportunities that can benefit families beyond the immediate program period.
With donor partnership, we can turn agricultural knowledge into household opportunity and household opportunity into educational continuity. Every family equipped to produce food and earn a sustainable income represents a stronger foundation for keeping a girl in school.
Together, we can plant the seeds of food security, economic resilience, and education—and nurture a future where poverty does not determine whether a girl gets to learn.
