A girl should never have to leave school because her family cannot afford the next meal. Yet for vulnerable households in the communities we serve, poverty and food insecurity can place enormous pressure on families to prioritize immediate survival over education. Through our Keep Her in School program, we are addressing this challenge at its root by strengthening the livelihoods of families who struggle to keep their daughters in school.
We equip parents, caregivers, and community members with modern, sustainable farming knowledge and practical skills that can transform small plots of land into productive sources of food and income. Families are supported to improve crop production, diversify what they grow, protect soil fertility, conserve water, and produce surplus food that can be sold in local markets.
The impact goes beyond the farm. When a family can produce enough food to eat and generate income from its harvest, a girl has a stronger chance of staying in school. Additional household income can help caregivers meet essential education costs such as scholastic materials, uniforms, meals, transportation, and other school requirements.
This approach creates a powerful connection between livelihood empowerment and girls' education. Rather than addressing school dropout only after it happens, we are working to reduce the economic pressures that contribute to it in the first place.
With the support of donors, we can provide families with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities needed to build sustainable livelihoods while creating a more supportive environment for girls to learn and thrive.
Your support can help a family grow food, earn income, and keep a girl in school—turning today's harvest into tomorrow's opportunity.
