Jiggers and worm infection in Kakamega East, South and Bungoma East districts is more spread; alarming and more serious that needs immediate attention to contain its spread. Most of the victims have feet, hands and scalp as the most affected part of the body. From our own analysis, 50% of the victims had their feet affected, 30% of the victims had both their hands and feet affected and finally about 20% had both scalp, hands, feet and other parts of the body affected.
To solve the problem, the project will mobilize and sensitize on jiggers eradication, train 500 health workers in 3 affected districts to disseminate health messages focusing on proper sanitation, preventive and treatment measures. This will enable affected to avoid cases like poor sanitation, illiteracy, ignorance and poverty. Treatment will be done through administration of drugs focusing on cleaning the feet, jigger removal, wound care, deworming and disinfecting houses with poor sanitation.
The project will improve the health status of 1000 children, 350 youths, 100 men, 250 women and 300 older persons. This will enable them rise from poor status of health and embrace good health and well-being.
