TCOLF Electrical Installation Training Program
The Electrical Installation Training Program at TCOLF was established to provide young people and community members with practical, hands-on technical skills that can help them pursue employment, self-employment, and further technical education.
The program combines classroom-based learning with practical training, allowing students to understand electrical concepts and then apply that knowledge in real-life installation and maintenance situations. Through the support received, TCOLF has been able to purchase essential electrical tools and equipment, creating a safer and more effective learning environment for students.
Activities Completed
TCOLF has focused on strengthening the electrical training program and increasing opportunities for students to gain practical experience. Key activities include:
Tools and Equipment Purchased
The support received has enabled TCOLF to purchase essential tools and equipment needed for practical electrical training and also pay the instructor responsible for guiding and training the students. This enables the instructor to provide consistent practical lessons, supervise students during electrical installations, and ensure that they learn safe and proper techniques while using the tools and equipment.
These tools are being used by students during their practical classes, the availability of these tools has made it possible for students to move beyond theory and practice the skills they are learning in a controlled training environment.
The equipment will also remain available for future groups of students, making the investment sustainable and allowing the program to continue benefiting learners over time.
Practical Skills Training
A major achievement of the program is the increased focus on practical learning.
Students are learning by doing rather than relying only on classroom instruction. Under the guidance of their instructors, learners practice activities such as, identifying electrical components and understanding their functions, Measuring electrical quantities using appropriate testing equipment, Preparing and connecting electrical wires, Installing switches, sockets, lighting points, and other basic electrical components.
This hands-on approach gives students greater confidence in applying their knowledge and prepares them for real-world working environments.

Impact on the Community
By providing young people with practical technical skills, TCOLF is helping create pathways toward employment and income-generating opportunities. Graduates may be able to seek employment in the electrical and construction sectors, continue with further technical education, or eventually provide electrical services within their communities.
The program therefore contributes to broader goals of skills development, youth empowerment, employment readiness, and improved livelihoods.
Challenges
TCOLF continues to face challenges, including the cost of obtaining sufficient training materials and equipment for all learners.
Electrical training also requires students to have access to adequate tools, protective equipment, wiring materials, and other consumables. As the number of learners increases, additional equipment and materials will be needed to ensure that every student receives sufficient hands-on practice.
Continued support will therefore help TCOLF expand the program, improve the practical training environment, and reach more learners.
Looking Forward
Moving forward, TCOLF plans to;
Conclusion
The Electrical Installation Training Program is giving students an opportunity to acquire practical skills that can support their future livelihoods.
With the support received through GlobalGiving, TCOLF has been able to purchase important tools and equipment and provide students with increased opportunities for hands-on learning. The program is helping learners develop technical knowledge, confidence, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and workplace readiness.
TCOLF is grateful to the GlobalGiving community and donors whose support is helping make practical skills training more accessible. Continued investment in the program will enable TCOLF to strengthen the training environment, reach more students, and contribute to sustainable skills development within the community.
