Challenge

Thousands of girls and young women across Somalia leave rural communities and displaced settlements seeking opportunities in cities like Bosaso. Many become domestic workers, casual laborers, street vendors, or remain unemployed because they lack education and marketable skills. Poverty, limited access to vocational training, gender inequality, and few employment pathways leave many trapped in cycles of economic hardship, limiting opportunities for themselves and their families.

Solution

TF will enroll 100 girls and women in a six-month integrated empowerment program combining practical vocational training with employment preparation. Participants will choose market-driven courses including Auxiliary Nursing, Digital Skills, Entrepreneurship, Computer Applications, Office Administration, Caregiving, Community Health, and other locally demanded trades. The program also provides literacy, numeracy, life skills, mentoring, internships, and job placement for sustainable growth.

Long-Term Impact

The project will help create a generation of economically independent Somali women with practical skills, confidence, and improved livelihoods. Graduates will increase household incomes, reduce dependence on informal labor, and become positive role models in their communities. Since the center has operated continuously since 2006, donor investments will strengthen an established institution capable of training hundreds of women each year while supporting Puntland's growing workforce.
