Not Just Equipment--A Lifeline

By Pamela J Azaria | International Resources Director

Chimes Israel Child in Standing Walker
Chimes Israel Child in Standing Walker

Three-year-old Noam loves listening to her older sister tell stories and watching her parents prepare dinner. But Noam has severe motor disabilities and cannot stand or walk independently. She struggles to control her head and trunk, reach for toys, and participate in everyday activities.

At home, Noam spends much of her time lying on a mat or resting in a supportive chair. When her sister builds a tower of blocks, she watches, unable to join her. Her parents desperately want to include her in family activities, but they cannot afford the specialized therapeutic equipment she needs.

At Chimes Israel's rehabilitative early childhood center, Noam's world opens up. A therapeutic stander supports her body in an upright position, allowing her to be at eye level with her classmates, reach for toys, interact with teachers, and participate in songs, games, and learning activities.

These experiences are more than moments of happiness. They are essential opportunities for development.

Young children learn through movement, exploration, and interaction. For Noam, limited mobility restricts these opportunities, affecting her communication, cognitive development, and social skills. The stander helps overcome some of these barriers while supporting her posture, muscle activation, and physical development.

At Chimes Israel, specialized equipment such as standers, adaptive seating, gait trainers, and communication devices are not luxuries. They are essential tools that help children with severe disabilities learn, communicate, and participate in life.

The difference between lying on the sidelines and participating in the world can be a single piece of equipment.

With your generosity, Chimes Israel can purchase urgently needed therapeutic equipment for our early childhood centers in Ashkelon and Tel Aviv, giving more children like Noam the opportunity to stand, explore, learn, and grow.

Thank you for helping children with disabilities reach their potential.
