Every child deserves to arrive at school as a student-not as a reminder of war. The most important thing inside this backpack isn't a notebook. It's a child's belief that they still belong, and still have a future worth imagining. Alongside quality school supplies, each backpack includes emotional well-being tools that help Ukrainian children manage stress and feel safer during air raid alerts. Every backpack tells a child: your future is worth investing in. You are, too.
In Ukraine, children can spend up to 900 hours a year in bomb shelters. Air raid alerts interrupt lessons, play, sleep, and the ordinary routines that make childhood feel safe. For many war-affected children, school is more than a place to learn - it is a return to structure, belonging, and hope. But financial hardship leaves many families unable to afford even the basic supplies their children need to start the school year ready to learn and belong.
A backpack cannot stop a war. But it can help a child keep learning through one. Each backpack combines quality school supplies with carefully selected emotional well-being tools that help children cope with air raid alerts, return to school with confidence, and rebuild the routines that make childhood feel safe again. Because every day at school is an act of resilience. Through Caritas Ukraine's nationwide network, the project will reach children and families most affected by the war.
The long-term goal is not only to help children return to school, but to ensure that war does not shape their identity. Education, daily routines, and emotional support help children see themselves not through the experiences they have survived, but through the future they are still capable of building. Every backpack is an investment in a child whose story should be defined by dreams, talents, and opportunities - not by war.
