AtentaMente has spent years developing Siconautas, a Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum for public school teachers and students across Mexico. The program includes teacher guides and children's books for PreK through grade 3, already in classrooms and working. Communities that completed grade 3 are asking what comes next. Now we need to complete grades 4, 5, and 6 so teachers and children can continue the journey they started.
Teachers and students who completed Siconautas from PreK through grade 3 are asking for more, and they are right to. Mexico's public schools serve millions of children who need more than academic skills, yet most teachers have no tools to support their social and emotional development. Without grades 4, 5, and 6, children are left without accompaniment during a key stage of their development. Every year without these materials is another year teachers go unsupported.
Your donation will fund the development and printing of Siconautas grades 4, 5, and 6, three teacher guides and classroom materials with culturally relevant SEL activities for older children. Materials are already in progress: first units for each grade are complete. With your support, we will finish the full curriculum and put it in the hands of teachers and students in underserved and Indigenous communities across Mexico, reaching children ready for what comes next.
Once complete, Siconautas for upper elementary will become a permanent resource for Mexican public schools. Any teacher, anywhere in the country, can use these materials to bring SEL into their classroom. The curriculum does not expire. It accompanies each child from early childhood all the way through elementary school, and stays in schools for every generation that follows, multiplying impact long after the project ends.
